The tribe of Asaro lives in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. The photos were taken in 2010. Asaro mudman ("People from the Asaro River covered in mud") first encountered the Western world in the middle of the 20th century. From time immemorial, these people cover their bodies with dirt and put on masks, so they cause fear among the inhabitants of neighboring settlements.
